Kent County Council’s Batch 2 Academy programme is nearing completion, which sees the re-development of six secondary schools across Kent. This included St Augustine Academy (Maidstone), The John Wallis Academy (Ashford), Skinners Acadmey (Tunbridge Wells) and Dover Christ Church Academy.
Skinners' Acamdemy, for example, is a new £20M three storey secondary academy with four zones that provide a variety of personalised learning space internally and externally. Additional works involved re-modelling three separate areas of the site, and refurbishing the existing sports hall to create a state-of-the-art facility to cater for the 1,150 students, specialising in Science and Engineering.
Dover Christ Church Academy, a £10M scheme, sees the delivery of a new extension offering specialist and vocational teaching spaces including science laboratories, hair, beauty, textiles and catering.Included is an extended sports hall with remodelled dance and fitness suites, and new changing room facilities. The central block of the academy’s existing buildings have been retained, with remodelling and refurbishment to provide a new main hall and dining area.
Betteridge & Milsom have been providing CDM Advisory services for all of these schemes, which are a mixture of new buildings and remodelling of other parts of the Academies.
