RBLI Scheme commences providing Accommodation for Veterans
This much needed housing project sees the development of new one and two bedroom homes for the Royal British Legion Industries in Aylesford.
24 homes for wounded and sick war veterans and their families will be provided, across two blocks. Designed by Clague Architects, the housing provides accommodation for those who are not in need of care, but require specialist facilities. Accommodation will also be provided for younger single veterans in need of temporary housing. RBLI is aiming to create a new sustainable community of ex-forces personnel with it located near to the extensive RBLI Village which offers support, employment and further housing for ex-personnel.
The development will feature a specialist centrepiece – The Chelsea Barracks Garden, designed by Jo Thompson for the 2016 Chelsea Flower Show. The garden will contribute to resident rehabilitation with Qatari Diar, the garden’s sponsors, sponsoring training for two residents who have a keen interest in horticulture allowing them to maintain the garden in its new home.
The team have already started work on site, with Betteridge & Milsom providing Quantity Surveying services. The project due to be completed by Q1 2017.
