Herne and Broomfield Parish Council’s chairman Ann Blatherwick, formally opened their eagerly awaited community centre on Saturday 9th June.

Since acquiring the old community centre in 2011, the parish council had received numerous requests from local residents for a new centre that would provide modern facilities for the area. In 2014 planning was granted and fundraising commenced. With the kind generosity from local businesses, residents and charities this project would not have happened.

The new centre includes two halls, a meeting room, communal space, a parish office and kitchen and ancillary amenities.  The new facilities aim to attract an array of users such as fitness and dance classes, Coffee mornings, interview spaces and holiday clubs. They have recently become Ofsted registered so plan to hold mother and baby classes and after school clubs which run in affiliation with the local primary school.

The building was designed to be environmentally friendly with the impressive glulam timber frame, passive ventilation to provide hot water and PV solar energy to generate electricity.

B&M provided Contract Administration and Quantity Surveying services throughout the scheme and were on hand to offer any additional advice when required.
