On Friday, Five Acre Wood School took possession of a new facility that they have wanted to develop for a long time. Five Acre Wood supports and educates pupils with a wide range of special educational needs. They offer many specialist facilities to help pupil development, one of which is a specialist pool. However, the existing pool facilities were over 20 years old and desperately needed upgrading.

A huge fundraising drive by the School and its fundraising arm, the Friends of Five Acre Wood School, enabled them to raise the money needed to construct a hydrotherapy new pool.

The new hydrotherapy pool features sensory lights and will enable those pupils with physical disabilities to experience movement in water, within a warm and safe environment. The pool will be available not only to the school, but the local community too.

As well as the pool, wet and dry changing bays, shower bays and toilets are provided, some of which are designed to be for accessible use. The new building will also host a sunken trampoline for rebound therapy.

Demolition of existing buildings on the School grounds had to be undertaken to create space for this new facility. The team delivered the project around a live school environment and some refurbishment work was undertaken to the existing building the new pool connects into.

B&M provided quantity surveying, contract administration and principal designer services on the project and we were delighted to be present at the handover see the School receive their new building.
